Preparing Yourself For A Long Hospital Stay

Welcome to my site about tactics you can use to cope with hospitalization. I am Edward Collins. I created this site after a long hospitalization left me feeling uncomfortable and dying to go home. I was ill-prepared for the lengthy stay at that facility. Despite my nurses and doctors’ best efforts, I felt lonely, bored and somewhat isolated during my stay. On this site, I will help you prepare for hospitalization well before you need your next medical procedure. Please come by my site daily to learn the information you need to know. Thank you for visiting my website about preparing for hospitalization.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Right For You?

Health & Medical Blog

One of the most innovative medical treatments these days is known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The treatment has been effective for a variety of medical conditions making it more and more popular with doctors and their patients. This article takes a closer look at whether this visionary medical therapy is suitable for you.

How it Works

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a procedure that increases the amount of oxygen in your blood.  The most common way the treatment is administered is through an enclosed chamber. You lie flat on your back and breathe in the high concentration of oxygen that is pumped into the chamber. The increased amount of oxygen in your blood that results from the process is helpful for a range of health issues.

Autoimmune Disease

One common health condition that hyperbaric oxygen therapy may help is an autoimmune disease. These diseases, which include such conditions as inflammatory bowel disease (IBS) and rheumatoid arthritis, occur when the body's immune system mistakes normal healthy cells for dangerous cells. The immune system then attacks those healthy cells and causes damage.

Oxygen chambers may help patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), a very serious autoimmune disease. One study, published by the New England Journal of Medicine, showed that a majority of those in the trial who were given pure oxygen showed improvements. In a control group that was given only 10 percent oxygen, just 1 out of 20 patients improved.

Wound Healing

Hyperbaric chambers are also used to help with wounds that are slow to heal. Several conditions can cause slow healing wounds, including very common diseases like diabetes. One key reason for the efficacy of this type of treatment for wound care is that your tissues need oxygen to repair themselves. When you have a wound that is not healing, it could mean that the area is not getting enough oxygen.

Autism

Oxygen therapy has also been used to help people with autism. A fascinating scientific study published by BMC pediatrics suggests that hyperbaric oxygen treatment led to significantly improved functioning in areas such as eye contact and social interaction.

If you or a family member suffer from one of these health issues, using a hyperbaric chamber could help. Your doctor can assist in determining if this process is right for you.

Although it's possible to get this treatment done in a facility, some people prefer to have it done in the privacy of their homes. One good idea is to contact a hyperbaric chamber rental service for more information.
