If you are one of the many people who suffers from allergies, you likely know just how horrible they can be. Even if you only suffer from them during one part of the year, they can still significantly disrupt your life. Here are four ways you can help improve your life when you have allergies.
1. Use nasal spray.
If your allergies cause you to sneeze a lot, then you should really consider using a nasal spray. Something as simple as an over-the-counter saline spray can do wonders for your nasal allergies. It helps flush out the allergens you have breathed in and prevent even more sneezing and sinus issues.
However, some people do require a prescription nasal spray for their allergies. The prescription sprays have corticosteroids in them that helps prevent your allergy symptoms, but they are generally only taken once a day. If you need further help keeping your nasal passages clean, you will need to use a nasal spray that you can buy over-the-counter.
2. Try an air purifier in your home and/or office.
Another way you can help improve your life with seasonal allergies is by using an air purifier. With an air purifier, it filters out pollutants and allergens that are in the air. That means there will be less of it for you to breathe in. However, it will only help those who experience symptoms related to allergens that are airborne. If you are allergic to something like dust mites, you will not find relief with an air purifier.
3. Buy mattress and pillow covers to keep dust mites out.
If you find that most of your allergy symptoms don't start until you go to bed, you may find that you are allergic to dust mites. Dust mites like to live off of dead skin cells from people, among other things, so that makes your pillow and mattress prime real estate for dust mites to take up residence.
One way you can help improve your symptoms if you are allergic to dust mites is to get mattress and pillow covers. You would put them on before you put your sheets and pillow cases on. They provide an extra barrier between you and the dust mites so your allergy symptoms will be significantly relieved.
4. Have someone else clean your home for you.
A lot of people with allergies experience severe symptoms while they are cleaning the house. If you are one of those people, you should really consider having someone else do the cleaning while you run errands.
If you can't afford to actually pay someone to do the cleaning for you, offer some sort of labor swap. For instance, you could take their kids to ball practice or run errands for them while they dust and vacuum your home for you. You and a friend or relative could likely come up with a wonderful labor swap arrangement that can benefit them as well as keep your allergy symptoms at bay.
