Preparing Yourself For A Long Hospital Stay

Welcome to my site about tactics you can use to cope with hospitalization. I am Edward Collins. I created this site after a long hospitalization left me feeling uncomfortable and dying to go home. I was ill-prepared for the lengthy stay at that facility. Despite my nurses and doctors’ best efforts, I felt lonely, bored and somewhat isolated during my stay. On this site, I will help you prepare for hospitalization well before you need your next medical procedure. Please come by my site daily to learn the information you need to know. Thank you for visiting my website about preparing for hospitalization.

The Process Of Conducting A Clinical Trial

Blog

When a new medicine is being developed, it is not known whether the medicine will be helpful or harmful. As a result, clinical trials must be performed in order to test the safety of the drug and whether it will achieve the desired effect.

Phase One

The first phase of a clinical trial involves those who are healthy. The researchers involved in the experiment test for side effects. They also make sure that a proper dosage for the drug is determined. The experiment begins with smaller doses and the doses are gradually increased a dose is found that either has no side effects or only has minor side effects.

Subsequent Phases

After the first phase is completed, the second phase involves individuals who are already ill. This is to determine the effects that the medicine has on the short term. Then, with the third phase, a larger group of ill individuals is tested and the results of the medicine are compared to a placebo. For example, some individuals are given the medicine and others are given a placebo. If both participants respond in the same way, the effects of the medicine are written off as being a placebo effect.

Marketing The Medicine

At some point, a medicine can receive a marketing license. The medication must pass the first three phases. After it receives a license, it is legal for the medicine to be prescribed. After this, a fourth phase of trials is conducted in order to further test the safety and effectiveness of the medication. Even if the medicine is found to be safe initially, it may later be discovered that the medicine is actually not safe.

Medicines are tools that are used by doctors in order to treat their patients. Doctors are not always sure which medications are the best. Not only do they treat patients based on medical literature that they have read, but also based on observations they have made after prescribing medications to patients.

For example, if doctors find that a medication is not effective or has serious side effects, he or she may choose to no longer prescribe it. The doctor may also contact the pharmaceutical company to report the problems found with the medication.

Pharmaceutical companies have an incentive for their medicines to work in order to avoid lawsuits and in order to sell their medications, so they may use feedback given by medical practitioners in order to further test their new medications.
